There are many different guided meditation sites online that offer information as well as materials that can be used for free in most cases. As the person advances in the practice of a certain type of meditation, then the materials often have a cost to them.
However, it is easy for a person to get started in the practice of meditation through the basic materials that can be found online for free. There are different types of meditation techniques that are used.
Some are based in the practice of a certain type of religion while others focus on a particular way to meditate for a specific result. There is guided imagery meditation which is often used to help promote relaxation, but is also used to help to heal different parts of the body which are in pain or have illness in them.
Focusing the Mind
Guided imagery meditation takes people into a state of mind where they are relaxed at the beginning of the session. An experienced practitioner should be used in guided imagery meditation, at least at first, because it is used to take the person deep into a meditative state and to focus on the parts of his body or life that need healing.
This is not an area that someone that is not experienced should be allowed to mess with, since it could cause more harm than good. Guided imagery meditation starts with the sitting position that the person is in, with the back straight and the legs crossed.
If sitting cross legged is uncomfortable to the individual, then the person can sit in a position that can be comfortable and maintained for the period of time that the session will take. The guided imagery meditation will then start to focus on the breathing of the person, so that all of the other thoughts are stripped away.
Once the mind is focused and the body is relaxed, then the guided imagery meditation takes the mind to a specific place or to a specific part of the body that needs healing. This method is called visualization, and the basis of the method is that the mind controls the different aspects of the body and the thoughts that the person has also affects the body.
For instance, when visualizing a big juicy hamburger, most people will start to create extra saliva in their mouths automatically. By using this concept, by visualizing a part of the body that is sick, healed, then the body will start the process of creating what was visualized in the guided imagery meditation.
